About this wheel spinner

A wheel spinner picks a random winner from your list with one dramatic spin — perfect for classrooms, giveaways, team decisions, and party games. Type your names or options, click “Spin the wheel”, and watch the pointer land on a winner. Free, instant, no sign-up.

This tool is for teachers choosing students, hosts running raffles and giveaways, managers assigning tasks fairly, and friends settling “who goes first?” without an argument. You paste your labels into the textarea (“Enter one label per line…”), spin, and the wheel stops on the result shown as “Winner: <name>”. Turn on the “Elimination mode (remove winner)” checkbox and the winner is removed from the wheel after each spin — ideal for drawing several winners in a row without repeats. You can add as many labels as you like, from two to a few hundred.

Everything runs entirely in your browser. Each spin is generated on your device — nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged. Every label has an equal chance on every spin, so the draw is always fair.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your entries into the textarea ("Enter one label per line…") — one name or option per line.
  2. Optionally tick the "Elimination mode (remove winner)" checkbox to remove each winner from the wheel after it is picked.
  3. Click "Spin the wheel" and read the result shown as "Winner: <name>".

The method behind it

Each spin draws a random value from crypto.getRandomValues(), the browser's cryptographic random number generator, and maps it uniformly onto your labels — so with 10 labels, each one has exactly a 1/10 = 10% chance of winning on every spin. The wheel animation (spinning motion plus a tick sound effect if enabled) is purely visual: the winner is decided by the random draw the moment you click, and the wheel simply slows down onto it. In elimination mode, the winning label is deleted from the textarea list before the next spin, which changes the odds honestly — with 10 labels and one removed, the next spin gives each remaining label a 1/9 ≈ 11.1% chance. The wheel never remembers who won before except through the labels you leave in the list.

Frequently asked questions

Is the wheel really random and fair?

Yes. The winner is chosen by a cryptographic random draw on your device, giving every label on the wheel an exactly equal chance — 1 divided by the number of labels. The spin animation is just for show; it always lands on the label the random draw selected, so the result is as fair as drawing names from a hat.

How does elimination mode work?

Tick the "Elimination mode (remove winner)" checkbox before spinning. After each spin, the winner is removed from the textarea list, so the next spin picks only from the remaining labels — no repeats. This is ideal for raffles with multiple prizes, drafting teams, or drawing several names in order.

Can I use it for a giveaway with hundreds of entries?

Yes. Paste as many entries as you like into the textarea — one per line — from a handful to several hundred. Each entry keeps an equal chance no matter how many there are, and elimination mode makes multi-winner drawings simple.

Does the wheel save my labels or results?

No. Your labels and winners exist only in your current browser tab and vanish when you close or refresh the page. Nothing is sent to a server, stored, or logged, so your lists stay completely private to you on this device.

Worked example

Enter 8 names and spin. Each name has a 1/8 = 12.5% chance of being picked. Turn on elimination mode and spin 3 times to pick 3 different winners: the first spin is 1/8 each, the second is 1/7 each among the remaining 7, and the third is 1/6 each among the remaining 6. The chance that one particular name wins any given spin is always exactly 1 divided by the number of labels currently on the wheel — fair and verifiable.
